The way we take product photos in 2023 is going to be quite different from the way we did years prior. With the rise of ecommerce and digital marketing, product photography has become an essential part of a successful business strategy. Product photography trends are changing quickly and it’s important to stay up-to-date with the latest trends.
Let’s take a look at some of the product photography trends we predict we will see in the new year:
Animation and Video
With the popularity of Instagram Reels and TikTok, it’s no surprise that consumers are starting to shop through video content. Video and animations help shoppers visualize themselves using your product and captures their attention stronger (and quicker) than still photos.
If you’re just starting to create or use video to market your products, you don’t need to over spend. Sharing live demonstrations, user generated content, or even GIFs are a simple and easy was to incorporate movement and animation.
Geometric Shapes
Incorporating geometric shapes into your product photography marries practicality with artistry. Similarly, styling your shoot using geometric shapes allows you to create a unique perspective within the frame.
Geometric blocks are some of my favorite props to include in my product photography. The blocks and shapes not only keep the styling simple and creative, but blocks are a great way to style group products.

Monochromatic Color Schemes
Looking to get a bit creative? A monochromatic product picture makes a big statement and can be very aesthetically pleasing. Furthermore, consumers tend to gravitate toward monochromatic images. They’re on trend and evoke feelings of luxury and style.
Monochromatic product images can be done using props or retouching in a software. However, it’s important to make sure the product itself is not changing in color so customers know what to expect with a realistic product.
Minimalistic Styling
Minimalism has always been popular in design, and it’s alive and well in product photography too. Minimalistic styling keeps your images timeless, and your product the star of the scenes. Adding too many elements can be distracting and take away from the product.
Keeping the styling of your product photos minimal helps increase the focus of your product. As a result, customers will be more likely to purchase your product. Bringing in too many props or elements can be distracting and take away from what you are selling. In other words, it’s always best to keep it simple.
Vibrant Colors
Neutrals and muted tones gained their popularity with the trend of highly curated, minimalistic aesthetic content. However, with more people looking to add more authenticity and imperfection to their content we’re starting to see a rise in vibrant colors. Especially, with the rising popularity of 90’s trends.
In short, people see color as being more creative and out of the box, so it’s a great time to introduce this into your photos and content.
Product photography is an effective tool for creating brand awareness and driving sales. Certainly, with the right strategies, and being aware of the product photography trends, your business will be able to stand out from your competition in 2023.
